Service Learning

The Signature Statement of BCA is: "Learning, finding value, and maturing by integration with community life and giving to the world." Giving back has long been a significant part of daily life at BCA.

We conduct Acts of Service throughout the school. Examples of service conducted at BCA range from caring for animals on our farm, washing dishes after meals, cleaning our common living spaces, reading to elementary children for "America Reads," cooking at the local food bank, to training abandoned dogs at the animal shelter.

Where have BCA students performed Community Service?

  • Bonners Ferry Food Bank -- Students provide support in the kitchen by cooking, serving, and cleaning during community meal times once a week.

  • 4-H -- Students participate in a Food Drive for the local Food Bank and do an annual "deep" clean of the Food Bank facility.
  • Belize -- Students help clean up the debris from a hurricane.
  • Upper School Kayak Trip -- Students help the Forest Service by cleaning up frequently recreated islands.
  • Boulder Creek students build a Habitat for Humanity home every year
  • Students prepare meals for needy residents
  • Student education aids
  • Students gain confidence and self-esteem as mentors in community elementary schools and Headstart Programs
  • Students go to the animal shelter
  • Students groom, exercise and exhibit animals for adoption
